Victor Dzidefo Ablo is a licensed Geography Educator with a background in environmental education and sustainable practices. Victor holds a BA in Geography Education from the University of Education, Winneba, Central Ghana. He has demonstrated a deep commitment to promoting environmental awareness and improving air quality through his various roles and volunteering. He recently completed a certificate program in “Air Quality Management and Science” at the University of Ghana co-offered by Columbia University, New York, USA and University of Ghana, Accra, Ghana.
Victor assumed the leadership role at Clean Air One Atmosphere (CAOA) in September 2023. CAOA is a Ghanaian non-profit utilizing citizen science to revolutionize air quality monitoring and data communication in Africa with lower-capital cost air sensors. The organization leverages collaboration to scale up air quality monitoring efforts in environments previously not monitored with focus on Africa. As the Lead of CAOA, Victor works closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and partner organizations. His leadership has been instrumental in planning, developing, and executing various programs and services aimed at improving air quality across the continent.
Prior to this position, Victor served as the Senior High School Project Coordinator for CAOA building on existing air quality campaigns at senior high schools in Ghana, developing and implementing new ideas to expand air quality campaigns with miniaturized air sensors. He supported and led the establishment of Clean Air Clubs (CACs), organized sensitization programs on air pollution, and facilitated the installation of air sensors at multiple schools. His efforts significantly contributed to behavioral changes at secondary schools in Ghana targeted at air pollution mitigation including awareness about environmental health among young students and teachers as well as kitchen staff who are predominantly women.
Further to the above, Victor has been actively involved in several research projects to address air pollution in Ghana as an exemplar for wider swaths of Africa of similar characteristics. Notably, he co-led a study on “The application of air sensors to support clean cooking initiatives at education centers in low- and middle-income countries using Accra High School in Ghana as a case study” in 2023. Other projects include “The Oxygen City Air Quality Project in Ho, Volta, Ghana”, which aims to create a breathable city through a collaborative approach. Currently, he is scaling up CAOA’s pioneering air quality campaign dubbed #teachtheteacher #teachthefuture in senior high schools across Ghana with efforts from Eastern Ghana.
In addition to his environmental work, Victor is a dedicated licensed educator at the Salvation Army Senior High School, Akim Wenchi, in Eastern Ghana, where he has been teaching Geography since January 2021. He has developed comprehensive lesson plans aligned with the Ghanaian Geography Syllabus, developed and implemented innovative teaching methods, and led student projects addressing environmental challenges fused with hands-on approaches. Victor also serves as a Form Master, Academic Counselor to support, and mentor students, offer suggestions to colleagues on teaching practice and related.
Committed to continuous learning, Victor has attended various conferences, such as the Professional Learning Community for Senior High School Teachers (ongoing), the Air Sensor International Community Accra, and the Africa Climate Communication Conference and Exhibition in 2023.
These experiences have enriched his knowledge and network, further empowering him to drive impactful environmental initiatives.
He is a member of the European Geosciences Union, the Ghana Geographers Association, and the Ghana National Association of Teachers.
